It has certainly been a awhile since we had a gathering like this...This time around,we head off to an unfamiliar location...The water was quite deep surprisingly...but the area is very snaggy...we lost quite a number of rigs and sinkers...
Catches was quite ok...there were ACK,eeltail catfish n blue spotted ray.Netcasting was really good.Had tons of baitfishes.Herman Kerapu had a strong pull at night but was caught on a snag.Pity.Would certainly be returning tho this area...enjoy the pictures...:)

FINALLY,AFTER MONTHS OF ABSENCE,WE ARE BACK AGAIN FISHING..SORRY FOR THE DELAY GUYS..
THIS TIME,IT'S BACK TO BASIC WITH A TRIP TO PREDATORS PALACE AT PULAU UBIN.UPON REACHING THE AREA,WE WERE GREETED WITH A DOWNPOUR.WE PROCEEDED WITH THE SETTING UP OF GEARS AFTER THE RAIN.

ME N MAN KERAPU STARTED WITH USING WORMS..THEN STARTED WITH THE USUAL NETCASTING FOR BAITS...BUT INSTEAD WE GOT ABOUT 30 PIECES OF KITANG FISHES..WOOHOOO!!ALSO IN THE NET WAS A QUEENFISH..YEAH!!

A FEW MINUTES LATER,I SAW MAN'S ROD WRIGGLING AWAY.HE WAS BUSY WITH THE NETCAST.I REELED IN FOR HIM.IT WAS A NICE TUDUNG PERIUK....

SOON IT WAS DARK N WE WENT BACK TO BASE CAMP.THE TIDE WAS ALSO COMING IN FAST.ARD 2130HRS,MAN'S REEL GAVE A FEW SCREAMS.AFTER SOME TUG OF WAR,THE FISH WAS SUBDUED.A PARI LALAT WEIGHING AT 8.5KG.

The team gathered again last weekend inclusive of an old team member Husin for another showdown.This time around,Miboh came out tops by reeling in a garoupa estimated around 2kg-2.5kg in weight.I hit another unga tanda ard 1kg in weight.The location never fails to give us surprises.More are yet to come....Till next time...

181207:OLD YET NEW AREA

It was the long awaited trip to Ubin.Miboh just came back from Australia after a year of study and is now on a vacation.The trip was planned just for him...kekeke.
We decided on an old yet new area.The old place is now restricted.But we managed to find a better one.

We reached the place ard 3pm.As it's the monsoon season now,we set up a shelter at our basecamp.By 5pm,we were ready with our gears n started fishing.

Baits that day were mixed.We had kelong squid,frozen n fresh pasir-pasir,mullets n worms.We were just waiting for the tide to recede so that we could cast into deeper waters.
When the tide was low,we proceded to the front.As expected,within the first cast with a kelong squid,we heard a ratchet alarm.It was my Daiwa rod.At the end of the line was a beatiful Ang Chor or Unga Tanda.Estimated to be ard 1.5kg-2kg.

Ard 20 mins later,my other rod had a strong bend followed by a screaming ratchet.But it ended early due to my snood line being ripped off.Damn..It was quiet after that for the rest of the team.All the killer baits were used up.Should have brought more i think.We would certainly return again.Cheers.

181107:Recce Trip/Lokan Hunting

Recce trip was planned few weeks ago.It was to recce old places whether they could be accessible for our hunting missions.But before we went for the recce trip,we went for lokan hunting.A type of shellfish.Zulman got to know of a particular swampy area which holds plenty of them.And they were huge.Total haul estimated to be ard 12kg...heheheh.
Went for the recce trip.We were quite sad that our usual hunting area had been closed down due to restrictions.But we managed to find some new spots near to it.Would be hunting there in this few weeks time.That's all for now..ciaoww!!!

Hi guys...It's me again.It had been way too long since i posted any reports on the blog.Sorry for the delay mates.

This time around,NazFreako picked me up from home.Reached CV ard 2200hrs.Met with Bro Y who was there to attend a DSG meeting(planning for a mini casting tournament during Deepavali holidays).We bought some baits n supplies and off to the hunting area.

Upon arrival,we did the SOP.Setting our rods n reels,rigs etc.Ard 2200hrs,i started with my netcasting for baits.I managed a handful of pasir-pasir and some night tambans.Rigs were baited n casted out.

Ard 0015hrs,Tmz n Fadly came.Nazfreako was asleep.I came over them to welcome n greet them.The usual chit chat came and a round of cigarrettes.Suddenly,a burst of a screaming ratchet sounded from nowhere.I turned around and knew it was from my Daiwa SuperCastx paired with a SHV30.Rushed to my rod,picked it up n started the battle.

On my left were a group of othe anglers.They turned out to be Botakmigrain n crew.Hello guys.Nice meeting u guyz.Helpful bunch as the line got crossed here n there.In less than 10 minutes,it was subdued.Tmz helped to gaff it.It was a beautiful spotted ray(pari lalat).It measured 7.5kg on the scale.Bait was pasir-pasir.

At 0300hrs,we decided to pack up.The ray was cut up n shared among us.It was a night to remember.Till next time,ciaoww!!!

290607:Puaka Beach Part2

As we had no other places to think off,me n Khidir decided to give Puaka beach a visit again.We were greeted with a heavy downpour upon reaching there.Armed with pumpun n netcasted baits,we carried on.No surprises yet on this cold night.Maybe this area was overfished...??????HHHmmmmm...

Yes!!..Exams are over.had not posted for few weeks.Sorry guys for the lag.Planned this trip with Khidir a week earlier.This time ard,we asked Yazid n Wan to tag along.
After getting our supplies n ration at Changi Village,we headed straight to the island.

As planned,we went to an area which was a walking distance from the island jetty.Unpacked and set up our gears as it was getting dark soon.

Baits used were pumpun,cacing pasir n several baitfishes from castnetting.Yazid n Wan were busy attending to their rods with the small nibbles from juvenile fishes.Me n Khidir were just waiting for any ratchet sound from our reels as we were mainly using baitfishes.

At 2100hrs,i rigged up my DaiwaSupercastX with a cut up tail section from a 6inch pasir pasir(swa jiam) n casted.Then continued with my castnetting hoping for any squids.Then ard 2215hrs,it happened.I was castnetting in front of my Daiwa rod when i heard two short burst of a reel ratchet.I was not sure where it came from.I looked back to the line of rods.My rod had no tip light.Is it mine?I saw my yellow monoline slackening .I shouted to Khidir"Did u reel in your line with the ratchet on?!!"He said no!!I quickly get out of the water,put down my net n started to reel in the slack line.The slack line was abt ten turns of the handle.I wondered if my line had snapped..Then i felt the something heavy at the end.I gripped the spool lightly n gave a firm strike.Suddenly after that,me n the rest of the crew saw a fish doing an acrobatic jump.Orale..Fish On!!!Every body were excited.The fish gave another jump before it was subdued.A 4kg siakap(barramundi).My first ever on a surf outfit.

Sunday 130507-Desert Burn

Just came back from an outing with Tmz,Apit n Freako.We fished the downtide at a desert shore.Armed with pumpun n fresh baitfishes.Only a small bite from a juvenile fish which was released n zero takes from the baitfishes.It was damn hot.But we did had fun swimming in the clean n clear waters....

With 7 packets of pumpun,we decided to give this area a try...There were a lot of anglers trying their luck this weekend.We squeezed in between a nice spot n started fishing...It was a good n fun night with small fishes biting our baits..hehe
We ended early as we were tired by then,BUT we will surely to return here as Apit's rod did gave us a surprise in the wee hours in the morning...Apit n Freako,..u all should know...hehehehe

It was a good tide that night.The three of us went to Changi Village to get wat-wat as primary bait n other supplies.Then we proceded to our fishing ground.As predicted,the Whiskers Team of Changi Came and whacked our baits,even with my fresh pasir-pasir.Luckily,they came or else we would came home empty handed.Total duris landed was 8 of variabe sizes...

Had planned an outing with the other guys a few days before.We decided to have a go at a stretch of beach somewhere at East Coast Park.Upon reaching the area,we proceded with the setting up of our rods.It was a particularly a bad night for TMZ coz two of his rods failed on him.Firsly, one of his telescopic rod guide came loose.Then,his Banax rod tip broke.There was a call for him to get a better surf rod then...kekeke.Upon seeing his disappointment,i decided to let him use one of my rods,which was a Greys Shadow.He loved it..kekekeke.
Like what Rizan of SSB(Singapore Sea Brothers)informed me earlier,the stretch of beach did produce a number of snags.It was a busy night for all of us as each of us had a few snags n breakoffs n had to retie the rigs...heheheh.No outstanding fish was landed,only juvenile fishes..but the company of the guyz made up for the poor catch rate...see ya next time...cheers

100407:Return To Tanjung Beach(Changi)

Didnt't fished last weekend due to some work i had to do so me n Rizani planned a relax outing.i suggested trying out Tanjung Beach at Changi as i had not seriously fished there for some years.The place could be overcrowded with anglers n beach goers on weekends n public holidays.It was a great place to fish a few years back n was also the first few places i fished when started out surf fishing until it had a high snag rate n fishermen laying theirs nets close to the shore.

But recently,i met a regular fishio n he said the area is improving n they were less snags.So off we went.Although the tide was not that good tonight,we don't care.just have fun n enjoy the sea breeze.Started fishing with pumpun at 5pm..not much action for the night n we ended at 6 in the morning.We caught few small juvenile fishes.Some released n some were brought back.We lost about 6 sinkers too due to snags!!!heheh..Unfruitful but certainly enjoyable...

030407:Visiting Puaka Beach

It had been a while since we visited this place..so me,Khidir and Apit decided to give it try ...reached the vicinity ard 11pm n set up our rods..then i proceed on with finding fresh baits...got few baitfishes and a few squids..i started fishing ard 1am...not long after,my rod baited with a squid had a bend..gave a strike n reeled in..it was an eel...dehooked and was released..

Rebaited with another squid...after the cast,had a puff.Then came another short bend...gave a strike n reeled in.It was a marine catfish..less than a kilo.Got another one soon after,similar in size.The duris were given away to another fishio..

Went out of fresh squid and used baitfishes n fresh prawns..It was quiet from then..
The other had a few gelamas n an eeltail catfish(sembilang)..All fishes were given away to other fishios ard there..Quite an unfruitful trip i must say,..but i think the best is yet to come...

well..after few years of fishing,i decided to give ourselves a group name..a sense of identity which i or the rest of the team could remember n cherish the times we had together..we are all secondary school mates..we have Herman Kerapu,Khidir Kuda,me Irfaan Obek n Suhaimi Turtle/Boh..I decided to call ourselves EASTCOREZSURFANGLERZ..why?!!dunno..just came up in my mind...kekeke.But we do mix with other anglers..i've met Team Jaws9,Team Esaap,Jedi Shikari,Rizan of SSB,Nelayan Inc guys,few of Team DSG,Azzahar ...n so on...anyone who fishes with us were considered part of the team...yeah...

aloha...Welcome to my first ever blog...First n foremost,my name is Irfaan or Obek.Born 1982 n still studying..kekeke...Lives in Tampines n studies in Yishun n loves to fish at Changi...
i was introduced to fishing during my primary school years and it was tamban fishing at Bedok Jetty.Got me really hooked!!!But no fancy equipment at that time coz i'm still young...Then in late 90's,a friend of mine,Husin introduced me to surfangling using the proper equipment n techniques..eg surf rods,surf reels,sturdy rod spikes,knot tying n so on...i was soo indulge in it that my academic performances dropped drastically...hehehe
Now at 25,i'm still actively,happily fishing with my "inmates" or kakis...mostly during weekends..Enough abt me..next post abt the team..heheh
